Life Threatening Injuries Reported for Two Victims Struck by Car in Newark's North Ward

Newark

Detectives for The Essex County Prosecutor's Office were called to the scene to assist in the investigation into a pedestrian strike that sent two victims to the hospital suffering critical injuries early Sunday morning.

According to preliminary reports, emergency responders rushed to the vicinity of Verona Avenue and Broadway at approximately 2 a.m. to investigate reports of multiple pedestrians struck at that location.

Police and emergency crews arrived at the scene and found two severely injured victims lying on the ground after a car struck them then reportedly rolled over their bodies.

The female victims were rushed to University Hospital where doctors treated multiple injuries then listed them in critical condition according to reports.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the vehicle that struck the victims did not remain at that scene. Police are looking for a newer Toyota Rav 4 that was observed speeding away from the scene immediately after the incident.

The investigation is in its early stages.
