Union County Authorities Report 'Life Threatening' Injuries for Teen Struck by Car While Riding Scooter in Elizabeth

Authorities in Union County would only report life-threatening injuries and are looking into a pedestrian strike that left a teenage boy fighting for his life after a tow truck hit him on a scooter Wednesday night in Elizabeth.

According to Elizabeth officials, the incident happened at the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue and South Spring Street at approximately 8 p.m.

Officials said emergency responders rushed to the scene when they received reports of a person on a bike was struck by a tow truck at that location.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found the teenaged boy down on the ground, unconscious and unresponsive, according to police. Elizabeth officials confirmed that the victim was administered life-saving care at the scene but did not confirm the extent of the boy's injuries.

EMS rushed the boy to Trinitas Hospital where he remained in critical condition.

The incident is in its early staged of the investigation.
