Life Threatening Injuries for Child Struck by Vehicle in Newark's South Ward

EMS rushed a child to University Hospital early this afternoon suffering critical injuries after being struck by a van in the city's South Ward.

According to sources that contacted RLS Metro Breaking News, at around 4:25 p.m., emergency responders rushed to the 300 block of Lyons Avenue after recieving reports of a child that was struck by a van at that location.

EMS arrived to find the female child (who is around the age of 3-years-old) badly injured.

The child had reportedly come detached from her guardian and entered the street when she was struck according to the source.

The full extent of the child's injuries could not immediately be confirmed as the Essex County Prosecutor's Office arrived at around 6:30 p.m. to assist in the investigation.

Lyons Avenue is close between Leslie St. & Willoughby St. due to an ongoing Police and Prosecutors Office investigation.
