Authorities in Essex County are investigating a shooting that left one victim dead and at least two others injured in a Newark neighborhood during the overnight hours.
According to a preliminary investigation, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of 130 Brunswick Street at approximately 3:15 a.m., police responded to reports of shots with a person down at that location.
When officers arrived, they located the severely injured victims suffering gunshot wounds at that location according to reports. The victim was confirmed dead a short time later according to authorities.
Two other victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries according to officials.
Police closed off the area as they searched for evidence to determine a motive for the shooting.
There are no reports of arrests.
