Large Police Presence Descends on Neighborhood in Harrison

Some residents on 5th Street were awakened to an unusual and significant police presence made up of officers from the Hudson County Sherrif's Department and SWAT descend on their community early Thursday morning.

According to preliminary reports, over a dozen heavily armed officers and members of Hudson County SWAT closed off the vicinity of South 5th -from Warren to Jersey Streets- while they surrounded a house at that location.

Residents say the operation began at around 3 a.m. and lasted just under an hour. They were not sure if anyone was placed in custody, but there were no injuries reported.

"They were looking everywhere and pointing guns with flashlights at the house and everything," a 5th Street resident told our RLS Metro morning crew.

A public information request was sent to authorities regarding the police presence in the residential neighborhood.

UPDATE 8:44am.This was a search warrant conducted by Hudson County authorities for an outside agency. Local police were not involved.
