Kidnapping, Burglary Suspect Arrested by Hillside Police

Hillside Police Detectives arrested Cedric H. Tate, 35, of Newark yesterday in connection with a burglary that occurred on April 20, 2019 at approximately 7:49pm at a Maple Avenue residence.

Police say on April 20, the victim returned home, surprising Tate while he was in the process of burglarizing the residence.

He forced her throughout the home while continuing to ransack the house and steal various items.

Detectives conducted an exhaustive investigation culminating in the identification and arrest of Tate.

​ Surveillance video from area homes aided in the investigation, Chief Ricciardi said

“I applaud the perseverance and skill of our detectives in developing the suspect in this case.

Our community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that a dangerous person has been removed from the street and will be brought to justice.”

Cedric Tate was processed and charged with one count of Kidnapping, Two counts of Burglary and one count of Theft. He was remanded to the Union County Jail pending a Superior Court appearance."
