Kearny Officer Uninjured in Chase with Stolen Car Recovered in Harrison

Hudson County

Kearny Police Department have said that an officer was uninjured after engaging in a car chase this afternoon.

According to police officials, Officer Matt Lopez was dispatched just before 3:30 p.m., to a report from Nassau County Police that a Bentley SUV stolen from their jurisdiction was GPS “pinging” at the Kearny Walmart.

Police officials said that upon entering the Walmart lot, Officer Lopez saw the SUV being driven erratically.

When it pulled into the smaller, adjacent Taco Bell parking lot, Officer Lopez tried to enter the lot as well.

Police said that upon seeing the marked police SUV entering, the Bentley driver jumped a curb, rammed the side of the police SUV, and fled towards Harrison.

Kearny Police did not pursue the Bentley, and Officer Lopez was unhurt in the attack.

Kearny Police later learned that Harrison Police officers encountered the SUV in Harrison and arrested at least one occupant.

The Bentley was recovered and is pending crime scene processing.
