Kearny Firefighters Rescue Woman Trapped by Floods in Car

Kearny

Kearny firefighters used boats and other apparatus to rescue a woman from a car that was surrounded by water that flooded out a street in the city overnight.

It happened at the intersection of Johnston and Passaic avenues where firefighters observed a car stuck in water that began to rise shortly after midnight. Crews were successfully able to reach the woman and get her safely onboard the boat to drier grounds.

According to officials, the average automobile can be swept off the road in 12 inches of moving water, and roads covered by water are prone to collapse.

Officials say attempting to drive through water also may stall your engine, with the potential to cause irreparable damage if you try to restart the engine.

The female driver of the car did not suffer any injuries during the incident according to preliminary reports.
