Juvenile Robbery Suspect Arrested After High-Speed Pursuit in Newark

Newark

A high-speed pursuit for suspects wanted for several Newark robberies ended in at least one arrest in the city's downtown early Tuesday morning.

Police attempted to pull over a vehicle occupied by suspects wanted for robberies in the city when the driver ignored officers' lights and sirens, then sped away from police around 2 a.m.

The driver of the vehicle barrelled across several neighborhoods in Newark's Central and South wards before making it into the downtown, where the car suffered two flat tires on Broad Sreet.

According to reports, the assailants made it to the University Avenue side of Broad Street Station, where both suspects bailed from the car and led police on a foot pursuit.

Police immediately arrested one juvenile while officers searched the area around the train station for the remaining suspect, who reportedly was last seen running on the tracks.

A police vehicle suffered damage after catching fire on Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard near the I-280 ramp.

There were no serious injuries reported.
