Juvenile Critical After High-Speed Crash in Plainfield

Plainfield Police are looking into the cause of a crash that injured a teenaged adult Monday. 

According to a statement released by police, on Monday at approximately 6:15 p.m., Plainfield Police units responded to the 1200 Block of Watchung Avenue, Plainfield, on the report of a severe motor vehicle crash involving one vehicle. 

Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a Toyota Camry was traveling west towards Seventh Street on Watchung Avenue and struck a telephone pole. 

According to Plainfield Police, the 18- year-old male driver is a city resident. 

He was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

Police say there were no passengers in the vehicle.

“At this time, it appears that speed may have been a factor in the crash,” Plainfield Police officials said. 

The Plainfield Police Traffic Unit will continue its investigation, including interviewing anyone who witnessed the crash.
