Juvenile Arrested for Firing Gun in Newark's North Ward

Police arrested a teenage boy and charged him with firing a gun in a section of Newark's North Ward Wednesday night. 

According to a preliminary investigation, a ShotSpotter device detected gunfire near the intersection of 202 1st Street prompting a police investigation shortly before 6 p.m. 

Several police units arrived at the scene and found shell casings, a vehicle damaged by flying bullets, and a suspect running from the scene. 

Multiple police units joined in the pursuit and set up a perimeter in the areas of Park Avenue and North 5th Street, where they believed the suspect was hiding. 

After a brief search of the area, police found the juvenile and arrested him in the 300 block of 4th Street without further incident or injuries.

It is not clear who the juvenile was aiming at during the shooting.
