Joint Investigation Launched After Man Found Dead in Hackensack River in Hudson County

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez confirmed that a man's body was found in the Hackensack River on Saturday, December 9, prompting a joint investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Secaucus Police Department.AdThe body was discovered around 12:45 p.m. near the Eastern Spur of the New Jersey Turnpike.

The Secaucus Police Department received notification of the possible body and quickly responded.

With the help of the Lyndhurst and Mahwah Fire Department Underwater Recovery Units, as well as the Secaucus, Kearny, and Wallington Fire Departments, the body of the male was retrieved from the river.

The man was pronounced dead shortly after 5:30 p.m. As of now, the identity of the deceased remains unknown, and the New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit has been called in to assist with the identification process.AdThe investigation into the cause and manner of death is pending, awaiting the findings from the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has confirmed that this matter is being actively investigated.
