Police detained one person near the scene of a shots fired incident that occurred on a street in Jersey City overnight.
According to preliminary reports, gunfire rang out in the 200 block of Virginia Avenue at approximately 11:30 p.m. sending police to the scene where officers canvassed and found evidence that a shooting occurred, but there were no victims located.
Police located several shell casings and a weapon during their search of the scene according to reports.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
