Jersey City Postal Employee Charged with Health Insurance Fraud

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said a mail sorter employed by the United States Postal Service was arrested by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit for submitting fraudulent medical claims to his insurance company.

According to Prosecutor Suarez, Mr. Gerald Hunter, 32, of Jersey City, is charged with one count of Insurance Fraud, a crime of the third degree.

Prosecutor Suarez said he was arrested without incident at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City on Wednesday, June 15, and released on a summons pending his first court appearance on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

The investigation determined on two separate occasions in 2021, Hunter submitted falsified medical records for reimbursement to AFLAC insurance.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Insurance Fraud Unit with the investigation and arrest.

The above charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
