JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop and the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation (JCEDC) expand supportive services for local small business owners, especially during the holiday season, with the kick-off of the city’s fourth annual “Small Business Saturday.” As part of SHOP JERSEY CITY BUY LOCAL, the citywide campaign starts on November 30, 2019, the day after Black Friday, with promotions through the holiday season to encourage members of the community to patronize independent, locally-owned neighborhood shops and restaurants, cafes and stores.
The Fulop Administration has been leading the state in new business creation and assisting small business growth across the city. Since Mayor Fulop took office in 2013, nearly 800 new small businesses have opened in Jersey City, with more than 10,000 jobs created, contributing to historically low unemployment numbers and boosting neighborhood business districts.
“Through efforts like Small Business Saturday, we continue to ensure our business owners have the support they need to build and grow their business as their success ultimately benefits the community as a whole,” said Mayor Fulop. “With our diverse community comes a diverse need for businesses large and small, which is why we’ve invested the necessary resources to create and nurture a thriving small business community.”
To help market Jersey City small businesses now and throughout the holidays, Jersey City Small Business Services of JCEDC distributed SHOP JERSEY CITY BUY LOCAL decals and pennant strings for small businesses to hang outside participating stores to help attract shoppers. A video was also created and distributed to promote Small Business Saturday.

Additionally, the City Council passed a resolution authorizing waived meter parking fees in the following lots. Metered parking will be free for a maximum of two consecutive hours from November 29th through December 31, 2019:
a) Lot 3: 352 Central Avenue
b) Lot 15: 754 West Side Avenue
c) Lot 33: 277 Central Avenue
d) Lot 39: 522 West Side Avenue
e) Lot 44: 693 Newark Avenue
f) Lot 49: 328-342 Central Avenue
g) Lot 52: 174 Newark Avenue
