Jersey City, Newark Juveniles Charged in Connection with Fatal Shooting

Police announced the arrest of an 18-year-old male wanted in connection with last month's shooting that injured one person and killed another.

According to police, on September 5th at approximately 3:20 p.m., officers arrested Zafarri Francis, 18, of Jersey City, in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on August 13th on Forrest Street in Jersey City, where two victims were injured — one fatally.

Francis, who was arrested without incident, has been charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Receiving Stolen Property.

Additionally, three male juveniles -two Jersey City juveniles (ages 16 and 17) and a 16-year-old from Newark - have been arrested and charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Receiving Stolen Property.

According to police, on August 13th, at approximately 1:25 p.m., Jersey City Police Officers responded to a report of possible gunshots fired in the area of Forrest Street in Jersey City. Upon arrival, officers found a victim at 322 Forrest Street with apparent multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim, later identified as Jaharee Broadway, 19, of Jersey City, was immediately transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 2:15 p.m.

A medical examiner determined the cause of Broadway’s death to be multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death to be homicide.

A second victim, 22, of Jersey City, was also located and found to be suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was also transported by EMS to JCMC where he received treatment for his non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant and the juveniles are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
