Jersey City Middle School Students Organize Collection of Supplies to Support Ukraine Refugees

Jersey City

Middle School students at Waterfront Montessori are joining in the efforts of the mayors of Secaucus and North Bergen to collect vital supplies to support Ukrainian refugees.

Last week, as students discussed the horror of the war in Ukraine, they discussed ways to provide assistance.

Sophia Oquendo, an eighth-grade student at WFM and Secaucus resident, shared with her classmates that her town's mayor was collecting supplies to send to Poland to help families affected by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The students quickly jumped into action and organized a school-wide fundraiser to collect supplies as part of the school's Year of Gratitude Campaign.

The middle school is asking the school community to donate diapers, clothing for babies and children, powder baby formula, small toys and small books.

Students will deliver donations to Mayor Mile Gonnelli and the town council of Secaucus who will use the items to create care packages that will be sent to Ukrainian refugees in Poland.
