Jersey City Hoboken

A 46-year-old Jersey City man was arrested and charged with harassment and endangering the welfare of a child among other charges after he attempted to take a child away from a mom in Hoboken.

According to officials, police arrested and charged Anthony Monteleone, 46, of Jersey City, with harassment, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana).

Authorities said that last night at around 6:30 p.m., Hoboken police officers were dispatched to the area of Newark Street and Sinatra Drive to speak with the victim who advised the officers that as she tended to her child, Monteleone approached her from behind and lifted her child up from the ground. The victim, shocked, took the child away from him.

Police say that Monteleone attempted to pick the child up a second time but was immediately stopped and was not harmed in any way.

According to police, witnesses provided a description, and all area officers were alerted.

After a brief investigation, police placed Monteleone under arrest and during a search, they found two small plastic bags of marijuana in his possession.

Officials said he was transported to headquarters where a warrant complaint was prepared but was subsequently remanded to the Hudson County Rehabilitation Center.
