Irvington Township Fire Truck Exposed to Live Wires

Irvington Township

An Irvington Township fire truck occupied by firefighters became exposed to live wires while responding to a call for service overnight.

According to preliminary reports, Irvington Ladder 41 was responding to a car crash on the Garden State Parkway near exit 144 when the truck attached on to an extremely low hanging secondary electric line shortly before 3 a.m. in the 100 block of Lincoln Place.

The power line attached to the rigs turntable and did cause the truck to energize briefly but none of the firefighters inside suffered any injuries according to preliminary reports.

Utility crews from PSEG rushed to the scene and removed the power line from the truck.

Fire officials want to remind residents to always remain in their vehicle if it becomes exposed to live power lines because the outside of the car could be energized.

The incident remains under investigation.
