Irvington Officer Strikes Child with Vehicle

Irvington Township

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office were on the scene of an earlier incident where a child pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Irvington this evening.

A spokesperson would only confirmed that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and said that his injuries were not considered life threatening at the time.

The incident happened at around 4 p.m. in the 30's block of Lincoln Place when residents frantically dialed 911 after seeing a young child run in between cars and into the street where he was struck by a vehicle at that location several eyewitnesses told RLS Metro Breaking News.

Police and emergency crews rushed to the scene where they located the injured child and transported him to the hospital eyewitnesses said.

The visibly distraught driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and has been identified by sources as an Irvington Police Department officer. Several calls to Irvington authorities went unanswered for confirmation.

It was not immediately clear if the officer was driving his personal vehicle or a city owned car at this time.
