Irvington Man Caught in Stolen Vehicle with Loaded Gun

Officials announced the arrest of Mr. Troy Corbett, 21, of Irvington, for possession of a loaded gun today.

According to police, at approximately 1:20 a.m., detectives patrolling Avon Avenue observed a white Hyundai which failed to stop at a traffic light at South 10th Street.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away at a high rate of speed ultimately running through a stop light at South 16th Street and Avon Avenue.

Police said the vehicle continued southbound onto the Garden State Parkway in an attempt to escape.

Shortly after, officers responded to the the highway after a concerned citizen reported that a white Hyundai collided into a wall.

Upon becoming aware of police presence, the occupants fled on foot and Troy Corbett, the driver, was apprehended by police.

Inside the vehicle, which had been reported stolen out of Irvington, police observed a loaded .25 caliber handgun, a black ski mask, gloves and cell phones.

Police charged Corbett with Unlawful Possession of Weapon, Receiving Stolen Property, Resisting Arrest and Eluding.

These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

This investigation is ongoing as at least three additional suspects remain at large.
