The jury found Combs guilty of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, resisting arrest, and obstruction.

The case, tried by Assistant Prosecutor Marco Collemi, was heard before Judge Naazneen Khan.

The charges stem from a January 5, 2024, traffic stop at South Orange Avenue and South 10th Street in Newark.

During the stop, Essex County officials said Combs fled from the vehicle and was pursued on foot before being apprehended by officers.

Prosecutors said he was found to be in possession of cocaine and noted his extensive criminal record, labeling him a persistent offender.

“This verdict shows that there are consequences for individuals who continue to engage in criminal behavior after being convicted in the past,” said Assistant Prosecutor Collemi, who thanked the jury for their service.

Combs is scheduled for sentencing on September 12, where he faces three to 10 years in prison due to his persistent offender status.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office credited the Newark Police Division for their assistance in the case.
