Irvington Man Charged After Attempted Residential Burglary in Montclair

Police in Maplewood arrested an Irvington man after an attempted residential burglary was reported at a home on Parker Avenue last week.

According to authorities, officers responded to the residence at approximately 7:56 a.m. on May 13 after receiving reports of a burglary in progress. 

The caller told police that an unidentified man was attempting to pry open a window and was still on the property when officers arrived.

 

Responding patrol units located the suspect attempting to hide behind bushes on the property while holding a screwdriver.

 

Investigators later determined the suspect was also carrying two additional screwdrivers.

 

The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Elys Bonhomme of Irvington, was taken into custody and transported to the Montclair Police Department for processing.

Bonhomme was subsequently charged with burglary and three counts of possession of burglary tools before being transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility.
