A 20-year-old Irvington man has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault involving a student at Rutgers University, authorities confirmed.

Rutgers University Police announced that Lenin Vallejo, 20, was taken into custody on Wednesday, four days after a student reported being attacked inside a university residence hall.
Vallejo faces multiple charges, including strangulation, aggravated assault, criminal restraint, simple assault, and two counts of invasion of privacy. Police also charged him with a weapons-related offense.
Despite earlier reports referencing a sexual assault, Vallejo has not been charged with sexual assault, according to Rutgers police.
Investigators said the incident occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday at a residence hall on the Piscataway campus.
The victim sustained injuries that were described as non-life-threatening and received medical treatment.
Vallejo remains incarcerated at the Middlesex County Jail as of Friday morning, based on publicly available inmate records.
Information regarding legal representation for Vallejo was not immediately available.
On Sunday, Rutgers University Police issued a campus-wide crime alert describing the incident as a domestic violence-related aggravated assault and sexual assault.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not released additional details at this time.
