Irvington Man Already in State Prison Charged in 2024 Maplewood Shooting

A man currently serving time in state prison is now facing new charges stemming from a shooting that occurred in Maplewood nearly a year ago, authorities announced this week.

According to an update released by the Maplewood Police Department, Jerry Menard, 25, of Irvington, has been charged in connection with the May 31, 2024, shooting that left a 24-year-old Irvington man hospitalized.

Police said the victim was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds near the intersection of Jacoby and Brown streets around 11:30 p.m. that night.

He was transported to a local hospital and later listed in stable condition.

Following an extended investigation, detectives identified Menard as the suspected shooter.

He has now been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, as well as criminal mischief and multiple weapons offenses.

Authorities confirmed that Menard is currently incarcerated on unrelated charges in a New Jersey state prison.
