The sound of laughter, music, and the rustle of costumes will soon fill the heart of Irvington, where families are preparing to gather for one of the township’s most cherished traditions.
On Friday, October 31, 2025, Town Hall at One Civic Square will transform into a hub of fall fun as children, parents, and neighbors come together for the community’s largest-ever Safe Halloween celebration.
According to information released by Mayor Tony Vauss and township officials, the event will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and promises a secure, family-friendly alternative to traditional trick-or-treating. Now in its tenth year, the celebration has become a hallmark of Mayor Vauss’s administration, reflecting the township’s commitment to youth safety and vibrant community programming.
This year’s festivities will include a live petting zoo featuring animals rarely seen in urban neighborhoods, supervised trick-or-treating with plenty of candy, live entertainment, and resource tables from township departments offering information and support to residents.
“Creating safe spaces for our children to experience the joy of Halloween is essential to building a stronger community,” Mayor Vauss said.
“This event has grown every year because our families deserve both security and celebration. When we invest in our children’s happiness, we invest in Irvington’s future.”
The Safe Halloween celebration has only grown in importance as families search for safe alternatives to door-to-door trick-or-treating in densely populated areas.
More than 2,000 people attended last year’s event, and officials expect an even larger turnout this year as the celebration expands.
Irvington Police Director Tracy Bowers noted that the program represents the best of community policing.
“Our partnership with the Mayor’s office allows us to connect with families in a positive setting while ensuring everyone’s safety,” Bowers said. “It’s community policing at its best, building relationships while protecting our youngest residents.”

With the combined efforts of the Mayor’s Office, the Police and Fire Departments, and numerous community partners, Irvington’s Safe Halloween has become a signature event that blends joy and security, giving children a night to remember and families peace of mind.
