Irvington Drug Investigation Leads to Arrest, Seizure of Drugs, Cash

A suspect with a lengthy criminal history of drug distribution charges was arrested on Wednesday afternoon by Essex County sheriff’s detectives, and new narcotics charges were filed against him.

 

Authorities stated that as part of an on-going investigation into drug trafficking in Irvington officers from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics executed a search warrant for 40 West Stratford Avenue on Wednesday.

 

The target of our investigation, Dwayne Manning, 53, was detained while his residence was searched. In the basement detectives discovered and seized 174 heroin-filled glassine envelops, stamped ‘POWER’ in red ink, 122 zip-lock bags of ‘crack’ cocaine, 4 grams of marijuana, and a full assortment of drug processing and packaging paraphernalia.

The street value of the narcotics is approximately $2,500.

In addition, detectives seized $120 in alleged narcotics proceeds.

 

Police ultimately arrested Manning and charged him with three counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, two counts each of possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS within 1000 feet of Augusta Street School, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public housing complex and possession of narcotics paraphernalia.

 

A judge ordered Manning to be lodged at the county jail where he awaits a bail hearing.
