The heart of Irvington was on full display at One Civic Square as Mayor Tony Vauss and the Irvington Municipal Council hosted the 23rd Annual Unity Day on Saturday, August 9.

Residents, families, and friends filled the square for an afternoon of music, food, and community connection.

According to the township, the event reflects Mayor Vauss’s focus on building stronger community ties—a commitment credited with helping to bring crime rates to historic lows.

“Unity in our community is not just a slogan; it’s a lifeline,” Vauss said. “When we come together, we create a safer, more vibrant environment for everyone.”

Council Members Beasley, Hudley, Frederic, Brown, and Antilus joined Mayor Vauss, along with State Senator Renee Burgess and Newark Councilman “Do It All” Kelly.

Each shared messages about the importance of standing together and investing in the town’s future.

The stage came alive with performances by Councilman Kelly of Lords of the Underground, Mr. Cheeks from the Lost Boys, Beanie Sigel, Freeway, and Valerie Adams and the Dimensions Band.

Kids enjoyed bouncy houses, face painting, cotton candy, and popcorn, while neighbors mingled and reconnected with one another.

Unity Day continues to serve as more than just a summer tradition; it’s a reminder that knowing your neighbors, engaging with local police, and building trust make a difference in keeping communities safe and connected.

As the day drew to a close, the message was clear: in Irvington, unity isn’t just celebrated, it’s lived every day.
