Investigation Underway for Fatal Freehold Township Crash

Authorities in Monmouth County announced that an incident in which a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in Freehold Township yesterday evening is under active investigation.

According to officials, shortly after 6:45 p.m. on Monday, January 30, Freehold Township Police Department responded to the southbound lanes of U.S. Route 9 between County Route 522 and State Route 33 on a report of a severe collision.

Police say, upon arrival, they located the victim, a 35-year-old male resident of Freehold Township. 

Also remaining at the scene was the driver of the vehicle that struck him, a 55-year-old male resident of Lakewood operating a 2008 Toyota Camry.

According to authorities, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

 An investigation by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Freehold Township Police Department remains ongoing.
