Investigation Leads to Arrest of Jersey City Man in Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substances

A two-week long investigation by members of the Prosecutor’s Narcotics Task Force and the Jersey City Police Department had officers arrest Keith Brooks, age 34, of Jersey City, charging him with various controlled dangerous substance offenses, hindering, and several counts of endangering the welfare of children for possessing the narcotics in an apartment where two small children reside.

According to authorities, on March 31st, detectives initiated a stop of a vehicle driven by Brooks on Stevens Avenue in Jersey City.

As detectives approached the vehicle, Brooks opened the driver’s side door and discarded five bags of suspected heroin and was paced under arrest authorities said.

Detectives then responded to his residence where they executed a search warrant at his apartment where they recovered and seized an additional 430 bags of suspected heroin, approximately 30 grams of suspected cocaine, a small amount of marijuana and $8,700 in United States currency.

The seized suspected heroin has a street value in excess of $2,500 and the suspected cocaine has a street value of more than $1,300 according to authorities.

Brooks is currently on probation.

Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited the Jersey City Police Department and the Port Authority Police Department Canine Unit for assisting with the search and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
