Investigation Launched into Officer-Involved Shooting in New Brunswick

Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone has announced an investigation following a shooting incident. 

Today, around 2:15 P.M., the Major Crimes Unit of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office received a report detailing an officer-involved shooting on Route 27, in close proximity to Mitchell Avenue in New Brunswick.

According to Prosecutor Ciccone, the initial findings from the investigation indicate that both the Franklin Township Police Department and the New Brunswick Police Department were summoned to the area in response to an ongoing assault involving an individual armed with a knife.

Upon reaching the scene, the police officers endeavored to de-escalate the situation. However, the individual acted aggressively by lunging at the officers with the knife.

In response, the officers discharged their weapons, successfully hitting the individual.

Prosecutor Ciccone the man is currently receiving treatment at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and is reportedly in stable condition. 

The incident is currently the subject of a comprehensive investigation.

Authorities seek information and any surveillance footage that may shed light on the situation.
