Elderly Man Passes Out, Dies After East Orange Robbery

Authorities in East Orange are looking for the suspect responsible for an armed robbery that occurred on a street in the city last night.

Residents in the vicinity of William Street and Morton Place observed a male laying on the ground at around 8 p.m. prompting them to dial 911.

Emergency responders arrived and immediately administered CPR to the man who reportedly died a short time later.

According to preliminary reports, the victim passed out and died from an apparent heart attack after a male suspect approached, then robbed him in the area. The man was physically attacked by the suspect.

Police set up a crime scene where they searched the area, but there were no arrests reported.

In the separate incident, police are investigating a shooting that was reported in the city on Wednesday.

Officials at the St. Josephs Hospital contacted police when a male victim entered the emergency facility suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the hand at around 7:45 p.m.

The victim told hospital officials that he suffered his injury in the City of East Orange but drove himself to receive treatment at the Paterson hospital reports said.

Bullets penetrated the car that the victim arrived in at the hospital according to reports.

The investigation into both incidents remain active and ongoing.

UPDATE 7:11 am: There is a homicide investigation underway for the elderly male robbery-assault victim.
