Infant Attacked, Killed by Family Dog in Woodbridge

Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, alongside Woodbridge Police Department Director Robert Hubner, has announced an ongoing investigation following a heartrending incident in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township, where an infant tragically lost their life early this morning. AdAuthorities were alerted to the distressing situation at approximately 6:17 a.m., when a 911 call was made from a residence on Mereline Avenue in Avenel Township, reporting an unresponsive baby believed to have been attacked by the family's dog.

Responding officers discovered the mother and baby at the scene, with the infant having sustained serious injuries from the dog attack.

Tragically, the baby was pronounced dead at the scene, while the mother and father were urgently transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

The community is in shock as local law enforcement delves deeper into the circumstances leading to this tragic event. 

The investigation remains active and ongoing, with officials urging anyone who may have information related to the incident to come forward and assist in the inquiry.

Detective Thomas Ratajczak of the Woodbridge Police Department and Detective Michelle Coppola of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office are spearheading the investigation.
