Inert Grenade Causes Scare in Newark Neighborhood

A device that resembled a grenade found by a tenant of a building caused a scare early Friday evening.

According to authorities, police were called to the 800 block of North 6th Street at around 5:20 p.m. after they received reports of a suspicious device.

Units arriving at the scene met with building management who told them that a tenant found the device that ultimately turned out to be the shell of a grenade authorities said.

According to police officials, the device was the type found in a novelty shop and had nothing inside of it.

The incident remains under investigation.
