I-280 Police Pursuit Initiated in West Essex County Ends in Newark

A high-speed police pursuit that began in a West Essex County town ended when police lost sight of the fleeing vehicle in Newark.

According to preliminary reports, the early morning pursuit began in Roseland when an officer attempted to pull over the driver of a vehicle that broke several traffic laws and refused to pull over.

Reports say the driver of the car made his way onto the eastbound lanes of I-280 then sped more than 100 miles per hour on the highway.

Police followed the car until it reached 1st Street in Newark, where they lost the car after the suspect traveled at a high rate of speed on streets in the city.

The suspect remains at-large.
