Good morning! If you’re waking up with us on this cloudy Sunday across New Jersey, we hope you’re off to an awesome start and ready to enjoy the first part of your day before the weather takes a turn.
It is currently 77 degrees in downtown Newark, where skies are cloudy and humidity is already making its presence felt.
While much of the morning should remain dry, don’t let the calm conditions fool you; rain is expected to begin moving into the region later this afternoon, with the potential for thunderstorms developing tonight.
Humidity will be the biggest weather story over the next few days, making it feel warmer than the thermometer suggests.
Temperatures this morning include 69 degrees in Sussex, 68 in Morristown, 71 in Somerville, 74 in Belmar, and about 76 degrees in Newark.
If you’re heading to your local house of worship for Sunday morning services, the weather should cooperate, and you can likely leave the umbrella at home for now.
However, if your plans take you outdoors after 2 p.m., you’ll want to have an umbrella or poncho handy as showers begin to develop.
Conditions are expected to become increasingly unsettled through the evening, bringing an end to the beautiful stretch of weekend weather.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a 20 percent chance of showers after 2 p.m. under mostly cloudy skies, with a high near 84 degrees. Southeast winds of 5 to 14 mph could gust as high as 25 mph.
Tonight, showers and thunderstorms become more likely, especially after 2 a.m. Skies will remain cloudy with a low around 73 degrees.
The chance of rain increases to 70 percent, with some thunderstorms capable of producing heavier downpours.
