According to a statement from the organizers:
"The Keep Newark Covered initiative was started by two young women from Newark (Kiara Abreu and Amina Samuel) to keep the homeless, and those in need, warm and protected throughout the winter months.
Donating to The Keep Newark Covered initiative is not just a "hand out" but instead an act of understanding and compassion.
It is where we can bridge the gap between talking about changing the world and being the change that we would like to see.
Many of us take for granted the daily blessings of warmth, shelter, security, and just being fit for the winter condition.
By donating to The 'Keep Newark Covered initiative,' we can help aid the struggle of those who aren't as fortunate as we are, and help bring the people of Newark together for a precise and tangible cause.
All donations will be contributed to "Keep Newark Covered" for a community celebration and an event to support the city's less fortunate community without.
The event will include a wholesome holiday dinner, care package giveaways, free haircuts, free children's books, and even a live DJ".
