Hudson County Drug Operation Nets Three Arrests, Seizes Over $500K in Narcotics

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced the arrest of three individuals in North Bergen following a joint investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Narcotics Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations Newark, and the United States Postal Inspection Service.BookProsecutor Suarez said on Thursday, February 22, Mauricio Hurtado, 42, of Secaucus, Jose Restrepo, 57, of North Bergen, and Carlos Florez, 49, of Bloomingdale, were arrested in a significant drug operation.

The investigation led to the recovery of over 5 kilograms of suspected MDMA/ketamine, valued at over $500,000, along with a handgun.

The trio faces charges for possession with intent to distribute MDMA and ketamine and conspiracy to distribute these substances.

Further searches were conducted at Hurtado’s Secaucus apartment on February 23, 2024.

Authorities seized a handgun, over $100,000 in cash suspected to be narcotics proceeds and additional narcotics.

Hurtado faces additional charges, including possession of a firearm in the commission of a drug offense, money laundering, and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute.

The narcotics, described as pink and bright yellow substances, are known for their hallucinogenic effects and are commonly used recreationally.

Prosecutor Suarez commended the collaborative efforts of the law enforcement agencies involved in this major drug seizure.
