Hudson Authorities Arrest Three Suspects for Jersey City Murder

According to Hudson County authorities, on September 9th, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit arrested and charged three men in connection with the murder of Markell Albright that occurred in late July on Wilkinson Avenue in Jersey City.

Authorities said in a statement, at approximately 11:10 a.m., members of the Homicide Unit arrested Mr. Tyshawn Kitchens,19, of Irvington at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City.

Authorities say on July 23, 2019, at approximately 8:20 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Wilkinson Avenue in Jersey City with one male being injured. Upon arrival, responding officers found an unresponsive male with multiple gunshot wounds lying on the ground in the area of 125 and 127 Wilkinson Avenue.

The male, later identified as Albright, 21, of Jersey City, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center. Albright was pronounced dead at approximately 8:50 p.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the upper torso and the Manner of death to be homicide.

Authorities said Kitchens is currently incarcerated at the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny on unrelated charges. He has been charged with murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3; Conspiracy to Commit Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2 and 2C:11-3; Possession of a Weapon (Firearm) for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Firearm) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5.

Authorities said at approximately 2:45 p.m., members of the Homicide Unit arrested Mr. Corey Walker, 22, of Westwood in the area of New Heckman Drive in Jersey City. He was arrested without incident and has been charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3; and Conspiracy to Commit Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2 and 2C:11-3.

According to authorities, at approximately 6:15 p.m., members of the Homicide Unit arrested Rashad Terry, 30, of Jersey City at the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny where he is currently incarcerated on unrelated charges. He has been charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3; and Conspiracy to Commit Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2 and 2C:11-3.

The Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pretrial detention of all three defendants.

Officials said a hearing is scheduled for Friday, September 13, 2019.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Homicide Unit with the investigation and the Jersey City Police Department for assisting with the investigation. She also credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Gang Task Force for the arrest of Corey Walker.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
