Authorities in Middletown are looking into the cause of a house fire that left one person dead Friday night.
Heavy fire engulfed a home in Dakota Avenue's single-digit block around 8 p.m., sending multiple fire departments responding.
According to an initial investigation, when firefighters arrived at the scene, crews found flames shooting from the home with reports of a trapped person inside the building.
Firefighters were able to get control of the blaze then searched the home where they found the unidentified victim, officials said.
The Fire Marshall on the scene requested assistance from a Major Crimes Unit and The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office to determine the cause of the fire, which remains under investigation.
