House Fire Displaces Nearly a Half-Dozen Families on 13th Avenue in Newark

A raging fire that ignited a multi-family house in Newark's West Ward has fire officials investigating the cause.

Early morning flames tore through the roof of the large three-story wood framed house located at 331 13th Avenue at around midnight.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and found fire shooting from the home when they began an exterior attack according to preliminary reports.

After gaining some control of the blaze, crews were able to make their ways inside the house to conduct a search for trapped and injured occupants that came back negative.

Over a dozen residents were provided temporary assistance by the American Red Cross.

According to reports, one firefighter suffered minor injuries while battling the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Newark Fire officials.
