The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office will lead the investigation into a shooting that fatally injured a person overnight in Jersey City.
According to preliminary reports, police responded to the vicinity of 199 Bidwell Avenue after receiving reports of shots fired at approximately 11:25 a.m. where they arrived at the scene and found the unidentified victim suffering an apparent gunshot wound to the head at that location.
Medical personnel pronounced the victim dead a short time later according to reports.
Police set up a crime scene where they searched for evidence to support a motive for the shooting.
There were no arrests immediately reported.
The investigation is active and in its early stages.
