The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are on the scene conducting a confirmed homicide investigation at a location in the city’s North Ward.
Officials have not released many details regarding the incident, but according to preliminary reports, sometime before 2 p.m., residents said police taped off the area Garside Street and 3rd Avenue then contacted the prosecutor’s office when they found an unconscious and unresponsive male at that location.
The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office would only confirm that the homicide squad is investigating the incident and the victim is an adult male.
Residents said they did not hear shots fired in the area before officer arrival.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the cause of the man’s death is under investigation.
