The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation into a deadly shooting that occurred in an Irvington Township community Saturday night.
According to a statement released to RLS Media from authorities, the shooting happened just before midnight, where police responded to reports of shots fired in the 50's block of 39th Street.
When police arrived at the scene, officers found a severely injured, unconscious and unresponsive man who was bleeding at that location.
Police say emergency responders provided lifesaving CPR on the victim before EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital for further treatment.
According to officials, the victim died a short time later. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed with RLS Media that the victim was an adult male and the investigation into the circumstances are in its early stages.
The motive for the attack has not been determined and no arrests have been reported.
