Home Heating Oil Spilling from Truck Temporarily Closed Chancellor Avenue in Irvington Township

Irvington Township

Police in Irvington Township closed off a heavily traveled street in the Township after a truck carrying home heating oil spilled large amounts of fuel onto the roadway on Sunday evening.

According to a preliminary investigation, police were called to the vicinity of Chancellor Avenue and Codier Street -near the old Valley Fair- after receiving reports of a possible oil spill shortly before 5:30 p.m.

Upon their arrival, officers immediately requested assistance from Nutley Hazmat Crews after they found home heating oil at several locations on Chancellor Avenue and a damaged delivery truck with a considerable size hole on the side of the tank.

According to reports, the driver of the truck was reportedly involved in -some type of- crash on I-78 in Newark that caused damage to the truck which allowed oil to pour out while he drove back to the Chancellor Avenue company.

Crews from Nutley Hazmat cleared up the spill as authorities launched an investigation.

Police issued the driver of the truck a ticket and a date to appear in court according to reports.
