Hit-and-Run Driver Kills Pedestrian in Elizabeth

Union County authorities are on the search for the driver of a vehicle that mowed down a pedestrian on a street in Elizabeth on Thanksgiving night, causing fatal injuries.

According to a preliminary investigation, police were called to the vicinity of Cherry and Murray street at approximately 10 p.m. after they received reports of an injured person.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found the severely injured victim lying on the ground at that location.

EMS rushed the woman to an area hospital where doctors reportedly pronounced her dead a short time later.

Police are looking for a black 2003 -2005 Nissan Sentra (similar to photograph) with front end damaged that sped away from the scene towards Jersey Avenue.

The incident remains under investigation. The identity of the victim has not been released and only been reported as a female.
