Hit-and-Run Crash Severely Injures Man on Garden State Parkway in Union County

NJ State Police officials are on the search for the driver of a car that struck a pedestrian on a highway in Union County Saturday morning. 

According to NJ State Police, troopers responded to a pedestrian struck at 5:27 a.m. on the Garden State Parkway north milepost 139.5, Kenilworth. 

Officials said, based on a preliminary investigation, a pedestrian was removing a construction sign from inside a construction closure when a Mercedes sedan struck a traffic cone while entering the construction zone.

State Police officials said the driver then struck the pedestrian and the sign, which was being removed.

According to NJ State Police, the Mercedes continued traveling north before striking an unoccupied Ford F350 and fleeing the scene.

As a result of the crash, police say the pedestrian suffered severe injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
