Hillside Police Pursuit Ends with Crash in Newark's South Ward

A high-speed pursuit of a vehicle out of Hillside that was reported stolen earlier in the evening came to a crashing halt in a Newark South Ward neighborhood overnight.

The incident originated when Hillside Police attempted to pull over a vehicle near the Newark border shortly before midnight according to reports.

The driver ignored police lights and sirens, speeding away from the scene.

The short pursuit came to a crashing halt in the 100 block of Renner Avenue near Bergen Street when two suspects bailed from the vehicle and ran from police.

According to authorities, one of the suspects was taken into custody a short distance away while the remaining male suspect is still at-large.

Emergency responders and rescue crews assisted a female victim who suffered non-life threatening injuries when her car was struck during the crash.

The incident is under investigation.

There were no reported injuries to police officers.
