Hillside Police took down a suspected armed carjacking suspect early this morning after a brief foot pursuit in Newark's South Ward.
A routine traffic stop by police of a white BMW that was occupied by several black males in the area of Bailey Ave. and Maple Ave. at around 1:25 a.m. in Hillside had authorities follow the vehicle that refused to stop.
After escalated speeds from the suspects vehicle and numerous motor vehicle violations, two passengers of the vehicle bailed out in the area or Grumman Ave and North Broad Street.
The driver of the suspected vehicle continued to elude Hillside authorities as the vehicle entered the area of Scheerer Avenue and Bergen Street in Newark where the vehicle crashed and the suspect bailed out of the vehicle.
A brief foot pursuit had Hillside Police apprehend the suspect on Shepherd Avenue in Newark.
After an investigation, it was revealed that the vehicle was carjacked at gunpoint out of Newark.
There were no injuries reported.
