The Hillside Branch of the NAACP is preparing for its 4th Annual Freedom Fund Awards Gala, a milestone celebration that will take place on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Titan Event Center in Union, New Jersey.

According to a statement sent by Hillside NAACP officials, this year’s Gala not only highlights four years of service in Hillside but also builds on the branch’s reputation as a statewide leader, having been named Branch of the Year by the NAACP New Jersey State Conference in 2023.

Since its founding in 2021, the branch has been active in promoting education, cultural awareness, and civic engagement through initiatives like the Richard Graves Book Scholarship, civil rights education programs, and voter registration workshops for high school seniors.

“This Gala is both a celebration and a call to action, reaffirming our commitment to education, equity, and empowerment,” said Nicole Graves-Watson, Founder and President of the Hillside NAACP.

Seven honorees will be recognized during the evening, including Assemblyman Reverend Reginald Atkins, Assemblywoman Garnet Hall, Hillside Fire Chief Rashawn Carey, NAACP NJ Conference 2nd Vice President Crystal Charley, Businesswoman Queen King, Past Master Levi Barnes III, and Community Advocate Ember Lofton.

The Freedom Fund Awards Gala serves as the Hillside NAACP’s signature fundraising event, with proceeds supporting vital programming and community initiatives throughout the year.

Tickets are available for $200 per person or $1,600 for a table of eight. Reservations can be made via Zelle at naacphillsidenj@gmail.com.
